Festival Program

The third weekend in February 2010 sees the fifth installment of Melbourne’s most fun and fascinating film festival. The Hillside Film Festival showcases the best short films from emerging Victorian filmmakers aged under 30.

Once again we received a swag of brilliant films from across the State, and now you have a chance to see an exceptional selection of the very best we could find, up on the big screen at Cameo’s beautiful outdoor cinema.

To compliment the shorts screening program the festival also includes a wide range of events, arts, entertainment and more in celebration of film culture. This years program includes a screening on Friday night of indie travel/surf doco ‘Surfing 50 States’, garden party in the gorgeous lawns at Earthly Pleasures Organic Café, kick on parties at the Bluestone Bar, and as much live music, roving performers, and tall green forests as we could fit into one eccentric hilltop village. See you there!

Surfing 50 States screening at 9pm at Cameo Outdoor Cinema

Two young Aussie mates combine their love of filmmaking and surfing as they set out on a quest like no other. Their mission - to surf all 50 states of the USA. This film documents the boys adventures across the country in a converted ice-cream truck, riding their surfboards one way or another in all 50 States. Even though they don’t always find waves, they still manage to ride their boards: surfing icy waves in Alaska, dropping down waterfalls, getting towed by a cowboy and his horse in Texas, sliding down a 15 foot pile of potatoes in Idaho, and 'surfing' in a Wizard Of Oz play in Kansas.

SurfingWorld magazine has described Surfing 50 States as "The best Surf Movie I've seen in ages"... despite the fact the boys can hardly surf. Check out www.surfing50states.com for more info
